Sending coins or bars needs more care than an ordinary parcel. Here is how to pack, insure and track a shipment, and what to document before it leaves.
Short answer: use a sturdy box with padding, discreet outer labelling, an insured and tracked service that requires a signature, and photograph and list everything before it leaves. Confirm the buyer's requirements in writing first.
Keep coins in tubes, capsules or flips so they do not scratch, and leave bars in their sealed packaging. Pack heavy metal tightly so it cannot move or break through the box. Put dense items low and central, and fill gaps with padding.
Do not mention precious metals on the outside. Use a plain outer box and a neutral return address.
Pick a tracked, insured service that requires a signature, and check the insurer's limits and exclusions, because some policies limit or exclude precious metals. Declare the true value, and keep the receipt.
Track the parcel, confirm receipt with the buyer and keep your records of the shipment until the sale has settled. Note the outcome in your records, including the date and amount received.
