Start Stacking Silver on a Small Budget

You do not need a large sum to begin. Here is how to buy silver in small, regular amounts, keep premiums under control and track your progress from the first coin.

Short answer: pick one familiar product, buy a small fixed amount on a regular schedule, compare the premium over spot before each purchase, and record every buy. Steady small purchases build a stack without needing a large sum or perfect timing.

Choose one product to start

A single recognisable coin or round is easier to buy, price-check and resell than a mix. Smaller sizes have higher premiums per gram, so as your budget grows, larger sizes usually cost less per gram.

Buy on a schedule

Buying the same amount each month spreads your purchases across different prices, which is the idea behind dollar-cost averaging. It also removes the pressure to guess the right day.

Check the premium every time

Work out the melt value of what you are buying and compare the price with it using the premium over spot calculator. If one dealer's premium is much higher than another's for the same item, buy elsewhere.

Watch the shipping

On small orders, shipping can add a large share to the cost. Combine purchases, or look for free-shipping thresholds, but do not buy more than you planned just to reach one.

Record from day one

Write down the weight, price, date and seller of each purchase, and keep the invoice. Your average cost is easy to follow when the records are clean, and it tells you whether the stack is working for you.
