History & design

The Royal Mint launched the Tudor Beasts series in 2022 with The Seymour Panther, picking up the heraldic-beast concept right where the closed Queen's Beasts series left off — but with a different historical source. Rather than the coronation beasts the earlier series drew on, Tudor Beasts depicts the heraldic statues displayed on Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace, representing the Tudor dynasty that ruled England from 1485 to 1603. Like its predecessor, it's planned as a 10-coin finite series (The Seymour Panther, Lion of England, Bull of Clarence, Tudor Dragon, Greyhound of Richmond, Royal Dragon, Yale of Beaufort, Seymour Unicorn, Queen's Panther, and Queen's Lion), issued in both gold and silver.

How to start collecting the Tudor Beasts

Because the series is still being released rather than closed like the Queen's Beasts, a new buyer has a genuine choice the earlier series no longer offers: buy in as it's being issued, potentially at lower prices than a completed set would command, or wait and assemble a complete run later once all 10 are out, which the Queen's Beasts experience suggests will likely mean paying up for the earliest, lower-mintage releases. Decide early whether bullion value (any common beast, best current price) or set-completion (tracking which beasts remain and which are scarcest) is the actual goal.

Key dates at a glance

The dates serious Tudor Beasts collectors specifically chase — the rest of the run trades close to melt value.

2022

First release (The Seymour Panther), launching the planned 10-coin successor to the closed Queen's Beasts series — this time depicting the heraldic beasts of the Tudor dynasty (1485-1603) displayed on Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace, rather than the coronation beasts the earlier series used.

FAQ

Is Tudor Beasts the same series as Queen's Beasts?

No — it's a separate, successor series launched in 2022 after Queen's Beasts closed in 2021. Tudor Beasts depicts a different set of heraldic beasts, from Hampton Court Palace's Moat Bridge rather than the 1953 coronation.

How many coins are planned in the Tudor Beasts series?

10, following the same finite-series model as Queen's Beasts: The Seymour Panther, Lion of England, Bull of Clarence, Tudor Dragon, Greyhound of Richmond, Royal Dragon, Yale of Beaufort, Seymour Unicorn, Queen's Panther, and Queen's Lion.

Is the Tudor Beasts series complete yet?

Not as of this writing — it's an ongoing release, unlike the fully closed Queen's Beasts series. Check current Royal Mint releases for which beasts have been issued so far.
