Short answer: A bullion bar is a rectangular piece of refined metal sold by weight, made by a refiner or mint.
Bars range from one gram to a 400 troy ounce good delivery bar. They carry lower premiums per gram than coins at larger sizes, and are marked with the refiner, weight and fineness.
