What is fineness?
Short answer: Fineness is the purity of a precious metal in parts per thousand, so 0.999 fineness is 99.9% pure.
It is stamped on coins and bars as a number such as 999.9, 916 or 925. Fineness multiplied by weight gives the weight of the pure metal.
