What is numismatic premium?

Short answer: The numismatic premium is the part of a coin's price above its metal value that reflects rarity, condition and demand from collectors.

It can be many times the melt value for rare coins, and close to zero for common bullion coins. It is less predictable than the metal premium and depends on the market for that specific coin.
